TVS Motor sales down in Sept

Our Bureau

CHENNAI: TVS Motor Company's total two-wheeler sales in September stood at 1,04,837 units compared to 105,989 units, during the same month last year.

However, the total two-wheeler sales in September 2004 recorded a growth of 17 per cent compared to August 2004.

The total motorcycle sales stood at 59,172 compared to 64,958 units in the same period last year. "The launch of `TVS Star', the entry-level four-stroke motorcycle, in mid October will arrest the decline caused by a fall in demand for two-stroke entry-level motorcycles," says a press release from the company.

The Scooterette sales buoyed by Scooty Pep clocked 23,150 units in September compared to 18,201 units last year, the release notes. Moped sales stood at 22,515 units in September compared to 22,830 units in the same period last year.

On the export front, TVS Motor Company continued its good performance having exported 3,319 units in September, recording a growth of 27 per cent compared to the same period last year.
