Insurance body to oppose hike in FDI

Chandigarh , Oct. 1

THE 27th General Conference of the Northern Zone Insurance Employees' Association (NZIEA) which concluded here on Friday resolved to oppose the hike in FDI from 26 per cent to 49 per cent in the insurance sector and also the imposition of service tax on LIC premiums.

A memorandum demanding their withdrawal will be handed over to the respective MPs by the State units.

The newly-elected General Secretary, Mr A.K. Bhatnagar, said that a memorandum from the policyholders demanding withdrawal of service tax on LIC premiums and opposing the FDI move would also be submitted to the Union Finance Minister.

It was also decided to go on a day's strike in case the Government introduces the Bill to amend the IRDA for increasing the FDI.

Regarding wage revision in LIC and GIC, it was decided to observe one hour walk-out strike on October 7 and two hours walkout strike on October 29 preceding lunch hours
