Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The ITC's Paper Board Unit at Bhadrachalam in the State has been rated as the country's most environment-friendly paper mill by the New Delhi-based, Centre for Science & Environment (CSE).

The CSE's Green Rating project evaluated 30 paper mills accounting for over 60 per cent of production of paper in India. It has awarded the highest rating to the ITC's Bhadrachalam unit for "Leadership in upgrading technology to eliminate elemental chlorine use and for its initiative in promoting farm forestry," according to a company press release.

The ITC Bhadrachalam Paperboards efforts have led to greening of over 25,000 hectares of private wastelands, yielding quality industrial timber for its paperboard manufacture and providing employment, the release said.
