MR S.K. Gupta ceased to be Managing Director of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd with effect from Friday.

Mr Gupta, who is also no longer a Director on the board of VSNL, however has three years left with the Tata group, under an agreement entered into in 2002, when the Tata group bought majority stake in VSNL.

Under the agreement, Mr Gupta would be with the Tata group for five years.

He would continue to be with the Tatas, although it is not yet known in what capacity he would continue, said Mr Gupta.

Meanwhile, VSNL has a new appointee for its Retail Broadband Business, Mr Shashi Kalanthil, who will oversee the entire business roll-out of VSNL's broadband offering.

Mr Kalanthil joins VSNL after a six-year stint at Pepsico India where he was Marketing Director, said a news release.
