Tea prices steady at Kochi auction

THE tea market here witnessed good general demand for both dust and leaf teas while the prices ruled steady tending lower at the sales during last week.

In the dust sales, 7,72,970 kg were on offer. CTCs were lower by Rs 2-4 and occasionally more. Orthodox highgrowns were barely steady. While medium primary grades were steady, secondaries tended lower. Prices quoted were Best CTC Rs 58-74, medium CTC Rs 52-56, poorer type Rs 42-50, highgrown BOPD Rs 92, medium BOPD Rs 45-46 and secondaries Rs 36-37 a kg.

In the leaf sales, 4,28,300 kg were on offer and orthodox was lower by Rs 2-3 a kg.

Prices quoted in this section were Best Nilgiri Rs 61-80 (broken), Rs 63-85 (fannings); medium orthodox Rs 51-70 (broken), Rs 43-53 (fannings); best CTC leaf Rs 61-65 (broken), Rs 60-63 (fannings) and medium CTC leaf Rs 51-57 (broken), Rs 52-57 (fannings).

In the dust sales, BOPD-CLRS fetched the highest price of Rs 92 a kg followed by Pasupara SFD with Rs 77 a kg while in leaf sales Chamraj OP, Havukal FOP and Havukal BOPF topped with Rs 85 a kg followed by Lockhart TGFOP with Rs 84 a kg.
