APTransco to open more consumer service centres

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Oct. 3

THE Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco) will shortly open a number of new Consumer Service Centres in the rural areas. These would be in addition to the existing 350 centres at the sub-divisional level and would facilitate the field engineers to have a close rapport with the public, according to the corporation Chairperson and Managing Director, Ms Rachel Chatterjee.

Presenting the "Meritorious Awards" for the year 2003-04, Ms Chatterjee said that several new sub-stations and transmission lines would also be erected and more distribution transformers (DTRs) would be provided to overcome low-voltage problems. Besides, 7,135 hamlets in the remote areas of the State would be electrified in the current fiscal at a cost of Rs 201.36 crore.

She said that the State power utilities have started implementation of the "Citizen Charter" effectively. The charter, among other things, prescribed time-bound settlement of grievances of consumers, minimising power breakdowns, removal of low-voltage pockets, replacement of faulty meters and reduction of wrong billing.

Ms Chatterjee presented monetary awards for 36 employees and non-monetary awards to 39 teams for their "excellent performance" during last year.
