Industry Associations Marketing - Rural Marketing FICCI summit to explore rural marketing strategies Our Bureau
Mumbai , Oct. 3 MORE than 300 top corporate leaders and professionals engaged in the rural market are expected to participate in Rural Marketing Summit 2004 organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on October 5 and 6. Participants include CEOs and senior marketing managers from the private and public sector, strategic planners, advertising and media professionals and marketing consultants. The objective of the summit is to explore ways and means of providing products and services that meet the needs, aspirations and attitudes of rural consumers and evolve appropriate communication strategy for market promotion. The rural markets have been burgeoning as a result of rising incomes and demographic pressure. Currently, the rural market accounts for 53 per cent of the FMCG and 59 per cent of the durable market in India. The rural consumers represent more than 50 per cent of the country's `consuming classes'. Rural consumers have become the prime target market for consumer durable and non-durable products, food, construction, electrical, electronics, automobiles, banks, insurance companies and other sectors besides hundred per cent of agri-input products such as seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and farm machinery. The summit includes presentations by experts on rural markets for the 21st century, rural consumer behaviour and development of products for the rural market as well as distribution and communication strategies. "This rare initiative will surely provide an excellent opportunity to interact with some of the key players in this area. The summit would provide a unique platform to draw a roadmap to strategise and effectively market and explore all avenues that exist in Rural India," a FICCI release said.
