Channels and Franchises Marrybrown plans to open outlets in Mumbai, Delhi Ajita Shashidhar
Chennai , Oct. 4 AFTER establishing a considerable presence in the South, Malaysian fast food company, Marrybrown, is now looking at outlets in Mumbai and Delhi. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Vinod Manikkath, General Manager, said that the outlets, which are likely to be opened by January 2005, would be franchisee outlets. The company is also shortly planning to launch a new retail model called Marrybrown Express. "This would mostly be takeaway and delivery outlets spread over 500-600 sq ft and would require an investment of Rs 15-20 lakh," said Mr Manikkath. The company will initially launch these express outlets in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The first Marrybrown Express outlet will come up on the ECR highway in Chennai. According to Mr Manikkath, the company is planning to tie up with petroleum companies to set up Marrybrown Express restaurants on highways. Apart from highways, these outlets will also be seen in theatres and shopping malls. "We want to create visibility through these outlets." He added that setting up large restaurants in malls was not viable as it involved huge investment. The company is also planning to set up an express outlet at the Chennai Central railway station shortly. These outlets, according to Mr Manikkath, would also be set up in various parts of the city along with the regular restaurants. "We hope to achieve huge volumes through this model, as most people, especially during weekdays, prefer to get food home-delivered rather than visit a restaurant." The company plans to set up 25 new outlets by the end of the current fiscal, which would be a mix of express and mid-sized restaurants. Marrybrown clocked a turnover of Rs 10 crore this year and hopes to cross the Rs 15-crore figure in the next one year.
