THE country is likely to be the pathfinder for developing an anti-diabetic drug from the sea.

According to the Advisor of the National Institute of Ocean Technology , Department of Ocean Technology, Chennai, Mr B.R. Subramanian, current investigations on the extraction of biological substances from the sea, carried out at the Regional Research Laboratory, Bhubaneswar, the Central Drug Research Institute, the Central Salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute and the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, are set to make India the first country in developing an anti-diabetic drug.

Mr Subramanian was recently at Karaikudi, near here, to deliver a lecture on `Trends and challenges-guided missile programme' in connection with the Foundation Day of the CSIR.
