Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The entire staff of the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Office of Nabard joined counterparts elsewhere in the country on a one-day strike on Tuesday.

Functioning of all Nabard offices came to halt, according to Mr A.S.S. Nampoothiri and Mr Jose T. Abraham, who represent the Nabard Officers Association and the All-India Nabard Employees Association, which spearheaded the strike. The striking employees staged a demonstration within the premises of the Nabard Regional Office. Union leaders Mr Sreekumar and Mr E. Radhakrishnan addressed the striking staff.

Among the demands raised by the staff was retention of Nabard as an apex development financial institution, its financial and organisation strengthening and parity in pay scales with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) staff.
