Coimbatore , Oct. 5

THE allocation for Tamil Nadu this year in the Railway Budget has seen an increase over the previous year and the State has also got a fair share of the number of new trains announced, according to the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu.

He said the doubling of the railway track between Coimbatore and Irugur stations would be completed during 2005-06, which would help ensure smooth flow of traffic on this sector, now subjected to delay for want of signal in view of the single track available.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday after inspecting the work done on the Coimbatore-Irugur stretch and the facilities available in the Coimbatore railway station, he said nearly 40 per cent of the doubling work has been completed.

While the budgetary allocation for Tamil Nadu during last year was about Rs 357 crore, this year, the Railways has allotted nearly Rs 397 crore, he added.
