CII to organise Managemantra on Nov 5, 6 in Chennai

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (southern region) will organise Managemantra, an event to showcase young talent in management colleges in the South, on November 5 and 6 in Chennai.

The annual event provides an opportunity for management students to benchmark managerial excellence and gauge their overall score in employability, said Mr R. Ramaraj, Chairman, Managemantra 2004 and Managing Director and CEO, Sify Ltd.

For companies, the event offers some of the best available young managerial talent from the southern region in a single forum, and participants are available for immediate employment. For institutes, the event is a platform to gauge what the industry looks for in new entrants and an opportunity to study their curriculum and requirement. For students, the event prescribes the `mantra' for their transition from college campus to the corporate world, he said.

According to Ms Saundarya Rajesh, Co-Chairman, Mangemantra 2004 and CEO, Avtar Career Creators, the event has an assessment process comprising five elimination rounds. There is also a selection process that measures verbal and numerical ability, team handling, presentation ability, business acumen, stress tolerance and individual value system.

The winners of Managemantra 2004 will carry cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, she said.

Mr P.K. Mohapatra, Chairman, Education Sub-Committee, CII (SR), said that the first event of this kind was held in 2002 at the Tamil Nadu level. Around 30 colleges and 20 companies from the State participated and 60 letters of intent issued to contestants.

The event scaled up to regional level in 2003, and it attracted 40 colleges and 25 companies. Out of the 245 participants, 227 got letters of intent and 150 took up jobs, he said. This year's event is likely to attract 50 institutes and 40 companies are planning to participate in this year's event, he said.
