Politics AP Naxalites propose agenda for talks Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Oct. 5 THE CPI (ML) (People's War) and CPI (ML) (Janashakti) have called for discussion on distribution of land, development of agricultural sector, self-reliance, democratic rights, and Statehood for Telangana. Proposing an 11-point draft agenda for the upcoming talks with the Government, the naxalite parties said that the discussion should focus on the backwardness of Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra Pradesh. The agenda should include issues like prohibition, education, health, people's welfare, corruption and scams and the ill-effects of feudal and imperialist culture, they said. The naxal representatives - Mr Varavara Rao, Mr Gaddar, and Mr Kalyana Rao of PW, and Mr Challapalli Srinivasa Rao and Mr Chandranna of Janashakti - held a prolonged meeting with the Government representatives and facilitators from the Committee of Concerned Citizens (CCC) on Tuesday. Responding to the proposal, the Home Minister, Mr K. Jana Reddy, said that he would discuss it with the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy. The naxalite parties proposed that the talks should be held at Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, and Guntur, besides Hyderabad, in order to cover all parts of the State. The Monitoring Committee set up by the Government last month should have resources and powers to look into the incidents that could vitiate the process. Calling for a meaningful role for mediators, the naxalites insisted that both sides have equal status in the process. For the talks slated for October 15, the PW would be represented by Mr Ramakrishna (State Secretary), Mr Sudhakar and Mr Ganesh (members of Special Zonal Committees of Andhra-Orissa Border and North Telangana). Janashakti has deputed Mr Amar (State Secretary) and Mr Riaz (State Committee member).
