`Coir sector in priority area': Kerala CM

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, has said that the State Government would treat the coir sector as a priority area and extend maximum possible assistance to it.

The traditional sector as a whole stands to benefit from the specific schemes announced in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre, he said here while addressing trade union leaders.

The Chief Minister said he was confident that the State would be able to make good use of the funds being made available in this manner. He asked the unions to come up with practical suggestions on how best to make use of these funds.
