WORLD Health Week is to be observed at Kottayam from Friday. The theme of the week-long celebrations is `Relationship between physical and mental health', said Mr Roy Abraham, National Secretary, Indian Psychiatric Society.

It will be inaugurated by Dr N. Ravindranath, Pro Vice- Chancellor, M.G. University, on Friday at PTA Hall, Medical College Hospital.

Dr Roy Abraham will preside. Dr N. Sudayakumar, Principal, Medical College; Dr V.K. Radhakrishnan, President-designate of the State Psychiatric Society; Dr P. Ashokan, Superintendent, Medical College Hospital; Dr K. Saibunnisha Beevi, Department of Psychiatry and Dr Varghese Punnoose will speak on the occasion. The programme includes symposium, scientific sessions and mental health exhibitions. `No health without mental health' is the message of the programme. Experts will present papers on various topics during the meet.

About 70 per cent of patients have mental problems and it is imperative that they should be examined in detail to identify the individual areas for treatment. Efforts will be made to create awareness among the public about the intimate relationship between physical and mental health.

According to WHO, major problems in developing nations by 2020 will be cardiac disease and mental depression. Both the diseases have decisive impact on the health of the population, Dr Punnoose pointed out.
