Performance Ashok Leyland Sept production hit due to strike Our Bureau
Chennai , Oct. 7 THE strike by workmen of Ashok Leyland's Hosur-I unit, which also produces most of the engines needed by the company, has hit production. Production of vehicles in September was 3,854 units compared with 4,549 in September last year and 4,226 vehicles in August 2004. However, sales were affected less acutely because the company had an inventory of finished stock. Ashok Leyland sold 4,175 vehicles in the domestic market compared with 3,440 vehicles in the previous month and 4,360 in September 2003. Exports were higher at 444 vehicles than 244 in September 2003, but dropped sequentially compared with 583 in August 2004. Overall, the company sold 4,619 vehicles in September compared with 4,604 in the same month of last year. In the period between April and September, Ashok Leyland sold 23,582 vehicles compared with 20,349 in the same period of 2003.
