E-Governance New service at e-Seva centres in Vizag Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , Oct. 7 A NEW service Right to Information was launched at the e-Seva centres here on Thursday enabling the common man to demand any public document. Launching the project at Ramakrishna Beach e-Seva centre, the district collector, Mr Praveen Prakash, said citizens would have to pay Rs 10 for each document at any of the 10 e-Seva centres in the city. A photocopy of the document would be delivered to the applicant by post within 15 days. However, if for some reason the Government was not prepared to share the information, a reply stating the reasons would be sent. The former Union Energy Secretary, Mr E.A.S. Sarma, who was the chief guest, described it as a good initiative, which would improve transparency and accountability. He suggested that a random customer survey of different income groups be taken up to find out whether their needs were being fulfilled by the e-Seva centres. It was also important to know what the needs of the poorest of the poor were. He complimented the staff at the R.K. Beach centre for their courteous service. Mr Praveen Prakash said people had the right to know what was happening in the Government. Often, they were in the dark about the various Government schemes and how they should be made use of. They need not go around the Government offices. The documents would be delivered to them. Depending upon the success of this project in the city, it would be made available at the e-Seva centres at division and mandal-levels later, he added.
