CTCs ease at Kochi auction

A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the quantity of 8,90,000 kg on offer in the dust category, good medium CTCs were easier by Rs 2-4. Others tended to further lower. Orthodox witnessed good general demand. Highgrowns remained steady, while medium fully firm to dearer.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55 and Rs 70, medium CTC realised Rs 50-55 and poorer type were quoted Rs 42-46. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 86 and Rs 90, while medium BOPD realised Rs 45-49. Secondaries were quoted Rs 35-37.

The leaf sale also witnessed a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,57,000 kg. Orthodox was generally lower by Rs 2-4. Smaller brokens witnessed less demand. CTCs were easier by around Rs 3-4, while high-priced CTCs tended further lower. CIS exporters lent fair support. CTCs mainly absorbed by upcountry buyers.
