`Focus on rural non-farm sector'

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Assistant General Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), Dr Venugopal Arikeri, has stressed the need for developing the rural non-farm sector (RNFS). A Nabard press release said here that he was participating in the `non-farm sector orientation and District Rural Industries Project (DRIP) familiarisation meet' for the officials of the South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank in Mangalore recently.

Dr Arikeri said that RNFS could provide employment opportunities and generate income on a sustainable basis. This will help minimise migration from rural areas to urban areas, he added. Nearly 40 officials of the SCDCC Bank attended the meet.
