A TOURISM package will be launched at Pathiramanal near here, the Chief Minister, Mr Oomman Chandy, has said. He was replying to questions raised at a face-to-face programme here.
The Chief Minister fielded a volley of questions as a large number of people attended the question-answer session.
Pathiramanal, a small Island on Vembanad Lake, is attracting a number of foreign and domestic tourists. The island, renowned for its rare species of birds, is a tourist destination with a diversified eco-system.
The island will get priority over Kumarakom in development works, the Mr Chandy said. Development of the area would be an added attraction to lake tourism also.
Situated at the centre of Vembandu Lake and spanning over 28.5 hectares, it is the land of rich bio-diversity with mangroves and rare water birds including night herons, egrets, cormorants, darter etc.
The Centre for Earth Science Studies, which conducted a detailed survey of the island, has warned that any development work in Pathiramanal could be undertaken only after ascertaining the possible environmental impact.
