Whistle-blowing

This is with reference to "Whistle-blowing" (Business Line, October 11). The British enacted the Official Secrete Act, 1923 to suit their imperial interest and to counter espionage during their time.

It is unfortunate that the Act, which sanctions penal action against an official who communicates or dissipates any information connected with his organisation to any person other than to whom he is authorised to communicate under his service rules, is still the law of the land.

C. Ramesh
