New Delhi , Oct. 11

MOBILE handset leader Nokia on Monday launched its super premium mobile phones under the brand name Vertu here.

The phones, priced between Rs 2.42 lakh and Rs 17.2 lakh apiece, will be distributed through Regent Watch and Jewellery stores at Delhi and Mumbai initially.

"We are delighted to announce the launch of our luxury mobile phones in India. India has a long-standing tradition of appreciating as well as using luxury items. There is an increasing demand for finely crafted, high-value goods in India," Vice-President, Global Sales for Vertu, Mr Giles Rees, told newspersons here.

Both the lines of Vertu phones — Signature and Ascent — have been launched in the country. The phones comprise precious metals such as white gold, yellow gold, platinum, scratch resistant sapphire crystal face and jewelled bearings.

Mr Rees said Vertu was not a mass-market product and the company's sales strategy will be focused on individual buying.
