Spices & Condiments Vanilla growers open auction centres Aravindan
Kottayam , Oct. 11 PRESSURE from vanilla dealers could be overcome only by concerted moves of the growing community, Mr Benjamin Esso, State President of the Vanilla Growers Association, has said. The international price of vanilla remains high while the Indian price is at a low , he said. To enable the growers to get prices commensurate with the international market, the association has started auction centres in six districts in Kerala. It would process the unsold quantity of vanilla available with the auction centres and make arrangements for its proper marketing. The association has introduced scientific processing to help the vanilla growers ensure quality. Marketing of vanilla in 10 gm packets in the domestic markets has evoked good response. A public limited company would be set up soon with an initial capital investment of Rs 100 crore. The company will also undertake marketing of different vanilla products both in domestic and international markets. The Association would send delegations to vanilla producing countries to study the various aspects of production and marketing of vanilla there. A global level co-ordination committee would be formed in association with the farmers organisations in those countries. To begin with, the representatives of the Association would visit Madagascar in March 2005.
