Hyderabad , Oct. 11

HINDUSTAN Petroleum Corporation Ltd will establish 500 new retail outlets, 70 per cent of them in the rural areas by March 2005. The company is also set to call for global tenders for 500 fully automated or e-fuel stations.

The Executive Director of HPCL for Retail SBU, Mr S.B. Chaudhry, said that the company currently has about 5,800 retail outlets of which about 485 have been added this financial year. "HPCL is in the process of inviting tenders for e-fuel stations or fully automated retail outlets where the billing is reconciled instantaneously. Once the process is completed, where global participants are likely, we would be able to complete them by early next year," he explained.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday to announce a loyalty building initiative, where HP Club members can build on the strong network and loyalty programmes, Mr Chaudhry said HPCL plans to roll out a sales promotion campaign in Andhra Pradesh targeting the high speed diesel customers. When these customers purchase fuel from HPCL bunks, they notch up loyalty bonus points which in turn entitle them to host of attractive prizes.

"Thus far we have enlisted about 1.6 million co-branded credit card holders and expect to cross the magical 2 million mark by this fiscal year end. The ICICI co-branded credit card, which has about 1.1 million users, is one of the largest co-branded card in the country," he said.

"With competition hotting up, we expect the branded fuels and lubricants market to grow significantly. We are currently offering branded fuels Power and Turbojet in select outlets, the response has been extremely encouraging as about 8 per cent sales is from these branded motor spirit (petrol) and 3 per cent from high speed diesel. By the year end, the MS is expected to cross 12 per cent. The branded diesel Turbojet has notched up about 3 per cent in barely 10 months from the launch," he said.

"In the rural areas, we are planning to establish about 500 Hamara Pumps, an innovative form of reaching out fuels to the rural populace. Already 50 such outlets are functioning and this number is expected to grow to 500 by the year end," he said.
