Bangalore , Oct. 11

THE sixth edition of `Jewels of India' will have more than 100 participants from all over the country and abroad. The exhibition will be held here between October 16 and 19.

The major attractions at the show this year are the Burmese Rubies that will be brought by six jewellers from Burma and the Rs 4.5-crore diamond necklace worn by Joan Rivers at the Oscar Award ceremony this year.

Burma boasts of the best rubies in the world - red in colour but with a bluish tinge to them. These are known as pigeon-red rubies.

The 190-carat diamond necklace, designed by Lili Chui resembles a tamarind tree. This piece is being premiered in India at the Jewels of India exhibition.

The exhibition will also have participants specialising in Kundan and Meenakari jewellery, Thewa jewellery, handcrafted work from Kolkata, antique/temple jewellery from Tamil Nadu, designerwear from Mumbai, Delhi, Hong Kong and Thailand, etc.

Mr Sandeep Bekal, Convenor, Expoworld, said, "The credibility of our exhibition has been endorsed by the extremely good response that we have received from our customers." This year, over 65,000 visitors are expected at the show, according to him.
