Sindhu J. Bhattacharya

New Delhi , Oct. 12

FRANCHISE India Holdings Ltd (FHIL), a franchising consultancy, recently acquired Mumbai-based fast-food chain Dosa Plaza's 50 outlets. It now plans to open 50 more such outlets across other major metros.

Dosa Plaza was owned by an entrepreneur who specialised in making and delivering 104 variety of dosas, and its packaging and delivery models were found to be very well developed, the FHIL President, Mr Gaurav Marya, told Business Line.

Declining to divulge the investment made in this acquisition, he said FHIL would invest Rs 1 crore in the next one year in marketing and promoting this chain across Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

FHIL deals with several aspects of the retailing industry through four independent divisions: a magazine called Franchising World; a business brokerage division Franchise Guru; consulting division FI Consulting; and the exhibition and conference organising arm called Franchise India 2004.

Mr Marya said FHIL is targeting 100 per cent growth in turnover to Rs 10 crore by next year and included in its expansion plans is acquisition of franchises in the healthcare and retail space. FHIL has already signed a 50:50 joint venture with Britain's Quantum Organisation Consulting; this joint venture company will be used for any future acquisitions.

According to Marya's estimates, the Indian franchise market is estimated at Rs 4,578 crore with a projected annual growth rate of 30 per cent.
