HYDERABAD: The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd will hold an exclusive bronze articles expo in Chennai beginning January 27, 2005.

Though the corporation held similar expos earlier, the speciality of the upcoming expo is that about 100 bronze statues, all more than three feet in height, would be on display, according to Mr V. Subbaiyan, Manager of Poompuhar (Chennai).

Addressing newsmen here on Tuesday, he said some exclusive statues were prepared by artisans from Thanjavur. A statue of Goddess Lakshmi that weighed 900 kg and cost Rs 8.3 lakh, specially designed for the Chennai expo, had been put on display at the Poompuhar exhibition, which opened here on Tuesday.

The 13-day expo is offering 10 per cent discount to customers. Mr Subbaiyan said the corporation would open showrooms in Andhra Pradesh and in Thiruvananthapuram shortly.
