Seminar on agri-export zones at Vizag

Our Bureau

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Gitam Institute of Foreign Trade here and the Visakhapatnam Chamber of Commerce and Industries are jointly organising a seminar on agri-export processing zones on October 28 and 29 at the Gitam campus with the support of the National Horticulture Board.

A press release issued by the Institute on Tuesday said the new Exim policy laid a lot of emphasis on agri exports and 48 agri-export processing zones (AEZs) would be set up across the country to boost exports. Therefore, the role of AEZs would have to be studied in depth, for which purpose the seminar was being organised.

The projected agri exports during the next five years were of the order of Rs 10,300 crore and the basic challenge in promoting agri exports lay in "establishing and strengthening the backward and forward linkages with a market-oriented approach and developing the pre-harvest and post-harvest facilities,'' accordingto the Director of Gitam Institute, Dr C.S Venkata Ratnam.
