Rs 40-cr milling cluster at Madurai approved

Madurai , Oct. 14

THE Union Government has approved the establishment of a milling cluster at a cost of Rs 39.95 crore at Madurai for cereals, pulses and staples under public-private partnership, with a grant-in-aid of Rs 29.96 crore.

The project will facilitate the setting up of quality infrastructure on an area of 30 acres at Milakaranai village adjacent to Kudalnagar near here.

The facilities include setting up of marketing-cum-finished goods storage centres, grading centres, modern packaging centres, cold storage, solar drying yard, modern analytical laboratory, internal approach roads, drainage system, water storage, street lights, building for human research development, skill, training and entrepreneurship development.

According to a press statement from the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Marketing Yard Ltd (the special purpose vehicle for the project), the approval will benefit the 800-odd milling industries functioning in Madurai and the surrounding areas.
