Koodankulam: Bench restraint

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court here, in response to writ petitions filed by two associations, has restrained Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) from filling up vacant posts in Group B, C and D categories at the ongoing Koodankulam power project in Tirunelveli district.

The associations, comprising those members whose lands have been acquired for the commissioning of the project, have sought a direction from the Court to NPCIL, to provide them employment as promised at the time of acquisition of their lands. Despite their being qualified for the posts, the company has started recruiting candidates from outside, they alleged.
