Bangalore , Oct. 14

SOFTWARE exports from Karnataka have touched Rs 6,500 crore during the first half of the year, a 39 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year.

"Exports have increased significantly during the first half of the year but the billing cycle is more in favour of the third and last quarter," said Mr B.V. Naidu, Director, STPI (Software Technology Parks of India), indicating that robust growth for the next two quarters can be expected from the State's software houses.

Investments in the IT sector have continued to grow rapidly with Rs 1,120 crore being invested during the first half of the year, with 92 new entrants setting up shop. About 46 of these were 100 per cent foreign equity companies and 20 were BPOs, Mr Naidu said, adding that the State continued to witness strong interest and investments.

The ITES and BPO sectors would see STPI promoting secondary cities for growth and new investments. It was also working with industry and academia to enable the State offer the BPO skills assessment test, Mr Naidu said.
