The Hindu Business Line : National film fest begins tomorrow at Kottayam

THE Second National Film Festival sponsored by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will be held at Kottayam from October 17 to 20. Last year the festival was successfully organised at Perunthalmanna.

The festival could get wide attention at the national level as it entered into the second year of its launching, said Mr T.K. Rajivkumar, Chairman, Chalachitra Academy, here.

Notable films both in Malayalam and other languages, which could not be viewed through theatre circuits, are proposed to be screened during the festival days.

The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, would formally inaugurate the festival on October 17 at Indraprastham Auditorium. Mr K. Suresh Kurup, MP, would preside over the function. The film Director, Mr K.S. Sethumadhavan, will be the chief guest.

The inauguration of the marketing of the CD Rom produced by the Academy depicting the 75-year history of Malayalam Cinema would be done by Mr Jayant Mammen Mathew, Deputy Editor, Malayala Manorama. The artists who won the national film awards in 2003 would also be honoured at the meeting.

The Chief Minister would also honour the film actor of yesteryears Mr Jose Prakash. The District Panchayath President, Ms Ajitha Babu, the Municipal Chairman, Mr B. Gopakumar, and the District Collector, Ms Rani George, would felicitate. The Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Joshi Mathew, would propose a vote of thanks, Mr Rajivkumar said.

The films to be screened during the festival days include Ente Veedu Appoontem, Blue Print of a Red Flower, Sangrilla, Yajna, Aban Arayaner , Saphalam , Death of a Prodigal Son, Dooram, A Great Day etc.
