Terrorism Naxals ink ceasefire pact Our Bureau
The ceasefire would be in force for a period of three months. Though there was no formal agreement, the two sides have been observing ceasefire ever since the Congress Government took over the reins in May. The agreement was signed by the Naxalite team, headed by the Secretary of CPI (Maoist)'s State unit Mr Ramakrishna, and Mr K Jana Reddy, the Home Minister. The signing of agreement removes a major roadblock for the talks as the Naxalite groups have made it a condition. Mr Ramakrishna had already announced that the Central Committee gave a general direction for State units to take a decision on talks, depending on the preparedness of respective Governments to announce ceasefire.
