Economic Offences Anil Nanda in judicial custody Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 16 INDUSTRIALIST Mr Anil Nanda, former Managing Director of Escorts Ltd and CMD of Goetze (India) Ltd, was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks on Friday in a case of alleged customs evasion. A Delhi court hearing the case reserved its order on the bail plea for Monday. He was detained allegedly with undeclared foreign goods worth Rs 54 lakh at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday night when he was returning from London. A Goetze spokesperson declined an official comment on the case saying that it had nothing to do with the company. He has been charged under Sections 132 and 135 of the Customs Act. Mr Nanda had, in February this year, stepped down from the post of MD of Escorts after reported differences within the family over the selling off of Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre.
