Hyderabad , Oct. 16

THE Asian Development Bank (ADB) will hold its annual general body meeting in the city in May 2006.

About 3,000 delegates from 70 countries will participate in the AGM, the second one to be held in the country. The first one was held in New Delhi in 1990.

Announcing this here on Friday, Mr Tadao Chino, President of ADB, said the delegates included experts in finance, banking and business.

Mr Tadao was in the city to review arrangements for the AGM. Meeting the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, soon after his arrival, Mr Tadao said the coming together of a large number of financial and banking experts could provide a great boost to the State's economy.

Thanking the ADB President for choosing Hyderabad for holding the AGM, Dr Rajasekhara Reddy said infrastructure will be put in place well in advance. The Chief Minister recalled the State's association with the Bank, which had supported major projects such as the Rs 108-crore Karimnagar-Ramagundam highway, the Rs 241-crore Kakinada port development project and the Rs 460-crore Rayalaseema thermal power project in Kadapah district.
