Call to protect Kerala water sources

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, has said that the State needs to think loud and plan well ahead to be able to manage the exigencies triggered by frequently alternating floods and droughts.

Inaugurating an awareness programme on rainwater harvesting here, Mr Chandy said that result-oriented schemes must be formulated to protect water sources. The programme was organised jointly by the Western Ghats Cell and the Department of Planning and Economic Affairs.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were Mr K.J. Alphons, Land Use Commissioner, Mr Mathew C. Kunnumkal, Secretary to Government of Kerala, and Mr K. R. Jyothilal, Director, Agriculture.
