Kerala: CM holds meeting with MPs

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting of MPs from the State convened here by the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, discussed 86 specific issues that needed Central intervention either by way of financial support or through favourable policy announcements.

For instance, a case for financial assistance was made for a scheme to do away with all root-wilt-affected coconut trees in the State and replanting, an official spokesman said. In a similar fashion, the meeting also made a plea for a review of the Exim policy.

The Chief Minister regretted the tendency to reduce these meetings to mere rituals by convening them on the eve of each session of Parliament. Two issues that figured prominently at the meeting were the Pampa Action Plan and the National Waterways Project, the official spokesman quoted Mr Chandy as saying.
