Our Correspondent

Madurai , Oct. 21

THIRTY-FOUR `A' grade stations in the Southern Railways would soon have facilities available at the Madurai Railway Junction, identified as a model railway station, the Additional General Manager, Mr K.K. Pande, has said.

He told presspersons here recently that steps would be taken to ensure basic amenities in all the 730 stations in the Southern Railways.

On completion of the Sethusamudram project, laying of a broad-gauge line up to Dhanuskodi would be considered. Tenders have been floated and the works on Madurai-Dindigul double line (BG) project would commence soon.

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation would soon be taking over the catering on trains. The Railway Ministry is studying the feasibility of creating a special corridor between New Delhi and Agra to enable operation of high-speed trains, he said.

The `innovation award of the year' is recommended to Mr V.V.S. Sreenivas, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Diesel), Tiruchi Division for designing a new side lower berth, he added.
