Policy AP announces relief for displaced toddy workers Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Oct. 21 THE State Government has decided to sanction Rs 2 crore from the Backward Classes Welfare Corporation to provide alternative sources of employment to those who were displaced due to the Government's ban on selling toddy in the State capital. The Chief Minister made the announcement while reviewing the performance of various revenue earning departments with Ministers and officials concerned. He directed the officials to identify the displaced workers and provide them relief. According to an official press release, at the review meeting the officials of the Excise Department informed the Chief Minister that the revenue receipts of the department so far stood at Rs 1,049 crore as against the projection of Rs 2,477 crores for the current fiscal. The department had also booked 59,724 cases of excise evasion and arrested 29,369 persons as of date in the current year. It had destroyed 22.22 lakh Ganja plants.
