Foreign Trade Germany woos Indian cos Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Oct. 24 INDIAN companies aspiring to compete in German markets should be price competitive and maintain product quality. They should also gear up to face competition from countries such as Taiwan, Thailand etc while tapping the markets in Europe, particularly Germany, according to Mr Heimo Richter, German Ambassador in India. The ambassador, who was speaking at an interactive session on doing business with Germany, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore, said he would arrange for issue of long-term visa for Indian businessmen visiting Germany. He also agreed to take up with the German airline Lufthansa the question of extending the Germany-Dubai flight to Coimbatore. He would also arrange for tie-ups and joint ventures between German companies and exporters in Coimbatore and Tirupur and also IT companies at the proposed IT park here, Mr Richter added. Mr B. Steinruecke, Director-General of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Chennai, sought investment by Coimbatore industrialists in Germany for which incentives such as finance could be made available. A German delegation representing a diverse industrial group such as engineering, IT, biotechnology, medical and automobile and auto spare parts would be visiting India in February. Mr A. Sakthivel, President, ICCI, sought the help of the ambassador to arrange for collaboration with German companies since the companies that would be setting up units in the Coimbatore IT park would be interested in such an initiative. Tirupur exporters involved in garments and knitwear manufacture also are interested in having joint ventures with German companies and he wanted the ambassador's help in this regard.
