ZigBee protocol launch in Nov

THE ZigBee protocol, a new set of standards for wireless connectivity between any devices over short distances (100 metres), is likely to be announced at the WiCon Americas show at Santa Clara, US, on November 9 and 10, according to Airbee Wireless Inc of the US, a member of the ZigBee Alliance.

The protocol is being evolved by members of the ZigBee Alliance whose mission is to bring in "reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked, monitoring and control products, based on an open global standard."

With ZigBee, homeowners can set up a wireless network that will give them remote control of lighting fixtures, home security systems and other systems.Mr Srini Krishnamurthy, Vice-President, Airbee Wireless, said the first version of the standards would be launched at the WiCon show.
