Taxation convention with Uganda operationalised

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Oct. 24

THE Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has operationalised the provisions of the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention that has been entered into between India and Uganda.

This Convention, which was signed in April this year, has come into force from August 27, 2004.

The bilateral trade between the two countries has been largely tilted towards India. In the recent years, there has been a significant increase in India's exports to Uganda.

From a level of $48.1 million in 2000, India's exports to Uganda have touched a level of $105.5 million in 2003.

On the other hand, India's import from Uganda has been negligible.

A number of Indian companies have registered local companies in Uganda for their operations in that country.
