Small coins

The shortage of coins experienced till recently prevails no longer. The problem has been solved partly by inflation.

While denominations of 20 paise and below are no longer seen, 25 paise- and 50-paise coins are also getting scarce. Manufactured goods are mostly priced in multiples of rupees. Even where there is an element of 25 paise in the price it gets rounded off to 50 paise.

Beggars also have hitched their demand to Re 1 keeping in view the rise in the cost of living.

In any study of inflation the rounding-off effect should also be taken into account so that poor government does not bear the full brunt of criticism.
