Unit value of Tirupur apparel exports increases 17.3 pc

THE unit value of direct shipment of apparel exports by the Tirupur knitwear industry during the first nine months of the current calendar year has increased to $2.44 from $2.08 in the corresponding previous period, showing a healthy increase of 17.31 per cent.
The sharpest rise was reported during April and May, when the value rose to $2.33 and $2.52 respectively against $1.84 dollar and $2.06 last year.
According to the export figures culled out by the Apparel Export Promotion Council, the total value of knitwear garment exports rose to $79.71 crore from $63.10 crore earlier, a rise of 26 per cent.
The number of pieces shipped during this period stood higher at 32.70 crore (30.38 crore).
In terms of rupee value, the current year's exports amount to Rs 3,667 crore compared to Rs 3,029 crore last year, a rise of 21 per cent.
