Yahoo! absorbs Stata Labs' team

THE 25-member product development team working for the US-based Stata Labs in Chennai will move to Internet major Yahoo! This follows the acquisition of Stata Labs by Yahoo!, Mr Vijay Babu, President and Chief Operating Officer, Integrated SoftTech Solutions Pvt Ltd, said.

According to Mr Babu, the 25-member team was employed by Integrated SoftTech, and deployed in Stata Labs on build, operate and transfer (BOT) model. Following the acquisition, Yahoo! absorbed all the 25 employees (on the transfer model), Mr Babu told Business Line. "We do not know how Yahoo! will use these employees," he said.

Stata Labs is a privately held e-mail search company, and sells a programme called Bloomba that allows users to search e-mail and attachments in their in-boxes and to share schedules. "This acquisition will provide Yahoo! with exceptional technological expertise and strategic assets. At this time we do not have any announcements about the ongoing plans for the technology or the specifics of the transaction," information on the Stata Labs Web site says.
