Credit Policy

The Mid-Term Review of Monetary Policy points to "A warning of tough times ahead" (Business Line, October 27). Inflation is a matter of concern and GDP growth has been marked down.

The editorial "A bleak script" (Business Line, October 27), while drawing attention to the RBI's raising the ceiling on interest rates on NRE deposits, has also pointed out Centre's fumbling on clearing the way for FDI. It appears to be a wait-and-watch policy. If there is improvement in the crude oil price and farm output, there may be some relief. Why not the government think of external borrowing at low interest?
