Kerala: Agri Minister allays staff fears

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Agriculture Minister, Ms K.R. Gowri Amma, has said that the fears of agriculture officers about the future of the Tissue Culture Laboratory at Kazhakkoottam near here are unfounded.

The Minsiter told newspersons here that the Government was forced to place the laboratory under the control of the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council of Kerala because of gross mismanagement under the present arrangement. The council will run the laboratory for only a year and no change has been effected in the staff pattern either.

The laboratory was set up as a follow-up on the recommendations the M.S. Swaminathan Commission on WTO-related issues of agriculture in Kerala. The Government was in receipt of several reports indicating that its functioning was deteriorating by the day, the Minister added.
