Global warming

This is with reference to the editorial "Life breath for Kyoto protocol" (Business Line, October 28). The Russian consent for the Kyoto protocol is welcome. It will certainly go a long way in containing global warming by reducing the emission of carbon di-oxide by developed countries.

However, the objectives of the Kyoto protocol can hardly be achieved unless the US, which accounts for 36 per cent of 1990 carbon di-oxide emissions, ratifies the protocol.
