Ballarpur Ind net rises 28 pc

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: Ballarpur Industries Ltd, the country's largest manufacturer of writing and printing paper, has reported a 28 per cent jump in net profit at Rs 40.1 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2004.

Total income (net of excise), however, dipped to Rs 493.24 crore during the three-month period (July-September), as against Rs 499.13 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2003-04, the company said in a statement to the Stock Exchange, Mumbai (BSE). According to company officials, this is largely on account of a dip in turnover from the pulp business.

Gross sales increased marginally to Rs 544 crore from Rs 543 crore. An increase in paper prices has contributed to the jump in the company's bottom line. It had increased the prices of some of its paper brands by about 3 per cent in June and by a further 2 per cent in July.
