HYDERABAD: To stem the spiralling price of tamarind, the State Government has positioned 11,500 quintals available with girijan cooperative centres in all the districts in the Fair Price Shops and Rythu Bazars to be sold at Rs 12 per kg (seeded) and Rs 25 per kg (deseeded).

To meet the requirements of the consumers the Government has purchased 15,000 quintals of seeded tamarind from neighbouring Chhattisgarh State, according to a press release from the Commissioner of Civil Supplies.

So far 8,426.34 quintals of seeded tamarind has been moved and made available at all FP shops and Rythu Bazars for supply to consumers at Rs 12 per kg.

Tamarind prices have been continuously rising in recent days, and to ensure that the commodity is available to consumers at affordable price, the Government has decided to sell at Rs 12 per kg of seeded type.
